Yesterday, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) emphasise again that “All Bangkok street food vendors will disappear from Bangkok by the end of the year in the interests of cleanliness, safety and order”. “Yaowarat (ChinaTown) and Khao San Road will be NEXT!”

Despite Bangkok street food being named the best street food capital by CNN, Mr Wanlop Suwandee, chief adviser of Bangkok’s governor, mention that cleanliness and safety in the streets were BMA’s priorities. BMA will continue its operation to clear the pavements for pedestrians and announced that Bangkok street food vendors would be banned entirely from Bangkok streets.
Over the past year, BMA has evicted more than 15,000 Bangkok street food vendors citywide, sweeping up the streets and pavements. Popular Bangkok street food areas such as Siam Square, Pratunam and Sukhumvit soi 38, has all been successfully evicted. With enforcement officers keep a eye out to deter vendors from returning.

“BMA is now working to get rid of all the Bangkok street food vendors from all 50 districts in Bangkok. Yaowarat (ChinaTown) and Khao San Road will be our next goal. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS” Mr Wanlop Suwaandee said.
BMA would probably setup another location or zones for their relocation. We would see about that.
